Simpson Kalisher traveled North and South America, Europe, Asia and Africa on a variety of assignments during the 40 plus years he was active as a free lance photographer. And while his commercial work earned him many awards, he sought a more personal truth in his work.

It was this search that prompted him to work independently to produce his first book Railroad Men, photographs and collected stories, published in 1961 and in 1976, his second book Propanganda and other Photographs.

No longer seeking assignments, Simpson Kalisher found the freedom to explore the thousands upon thousands of images he created in his past wanderings. They have taught him about himself and about photography. He has selected over 100 images for possible inclusion in this new book. Luc Sante, art critic and author, is committed to write the Foreword and Jeff Brouws, photographer and author with a more direct and personal relationship with Kalisher, has offered to write an Afterword. The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston has acquired close to a hundred Kalisher prints for exhibition when the book is published or in 2012 if no publisher is found before then.

For your interest, 16 photographs are included here shown as a work in progress
